femfeel
We are proud to support medigital GmbH, a member of the MEDICE Health Family, in developing the femfeel app — a science-backed digital companion designed to help women navigate menopause with greater ease and confidence.
femfeel was founded by Marie and Janna, two university students who witnessed their mothers struggling through menopause with limited information and support. Since joining the MEDICE Health Family in 2023, femfeel has grown into a medically certified digital product, available on iOS and Android with coverage by numerous German statutory health insurance providers.
The app combines expert-developed courses in areas such as Progressive Muscle Relaxation, pelvic floor training, sleep, and stress management with a symptom diary, mood tracking, and on-demand relief tools for hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and other common menopausal symptoms. Part of the femfeel app carries a medical device certification under EU MDR — a reflection of the high clinical and quality standards underpinning the product.
Curiosum has been a development partner on femfeel, contributing to its codebase powered by React Native and Elixir.

Technologies
Project Overview
femfeel is a holistic digital health companion for women navigating menopause — one of the most underserved life stages in healthcare. The app guides users through a curated set of five-to-ten-minute daily routines across domains including movement, relaxation, sleep, and nutrition, designed by a multidisciplinary team of specialists: a sports scientist, a certified PMR and mindfulness trainer, a sleep neuroscientist, and a registered dietitian.
Beyond structured courses, femfeel provides immediate relief tools — breathing exercises, hypnotic relaxation for hot flashes, tips for managing cravings — and a symptom and period diary that helps women identify patterns and track their wellbeing over time. The app is tightly integrated with the German health insurance ecosystem: multiple statutory health insurers cover the cost in full. Part of the app has received a medical device certification under EU MDR, specifically the femfeel Journal.

The Challenge
femfeel had to meet a demanding set of requirements at the intersection of consumer UX and regulated healthcare. Users needed a gentle, motivating experience that fit into the cadence of everyday life — short sessions, accessible language, emotionally supportive design — while the underlying platform had to meet the data protection standards applicable to health-related personal data under European law, including the requirements tied to the app's MDR-certified components.
From a product architecture standpoint, the challenge was building a flexible, maintainable system where content — courses, exercises, expert articles, relief tools — could be authored and updated by non-technical teams without requiring app releases. At the same time, the app needed to support a growing range of health insurance partnerships, each with its own onboarding and reimbursement workflow, while keeping the user experience smooth and friction-free.
The Solution: A Certified Digital Health Companion
On the backend, we contributed to the Elixir/Phoenix API responsible for content delivery, user data handling, and integration with Supabase for authentication and data management. This is all meant to serve the frontend which implements the core UX flows: the daily course experience with its structured five-to-ten-minute sessions, the symptom and mood diary, the immediate relief tool library, and the health insurance onboarding flow that connects users to their specific insurer benefits at registration.
Throughout, we worked closely with medigital's product and design teams to ensure the app met both the clinical quality standards of the certified Journal module and the everyday usability expectations of a consumer wellness product.

The Result
The femfeel app has become a trusted companion for women going through menopause in Germany and Switzerland, with coverage by over twenty statutory health insurance providers and dedicated partnerships offering free premium access to their members. Its MDR certification for the Journal module positions it as one of the few consumer-facing menopause apps to meet formal medical device standards in the EU.
User testimonials reflect the app's impact: women report improved daily calm, a healthier relationship with personal time, and greater resilience in managing symptoms. For medigital and the MEDICE Health Family, femfeel represents a growing pillar of their women's health digital portfolio — combining clinical credibility with the accessibility and empathy that the femfeel brand was built on.
